
Crews of California is a minority owned and family operated organization with an entrepreneurial spirit that values creativity and innovation in airport retailing. Crews of California began as a subsidiary of The Benjamin Company.
The Benjamin Company, headquartered in New Jersey, was founded in 1972 by Robert B. Crews, Jr. with one bookstore at Newark International Airport. The Benjamin Company expanded its operations to 16 bookstores, 21 news/gift stores and sports-related merchandise stores in nine airports that fall within the top 30 airports by passenger volume.
In May 1994, Crews of California began its operations with three (3) stores in Los Angeles International Airport (“LAX”), Terminal 1, 7 and Tom Bradley International. Under Mr. Crews’ direction, Benjamin Books, News Emporium, The Benjamin Company Newsstands and Crews of California have all been recognized by airports for superior customer service, innovative facility design and outstanding product presentation.
Crews of California has continued to expand at LAX through partnerships with WH Smith and Hudson News Corp., in order to meet airport LAX traveler’s needs with quality-oriented service in a competitive environment.
Crews of California’s recent partnership with Newsways Distributors has enabled Crews of California to expand its magazine title selection and increase publishing revenues while further enhancing its value in service and consistency in business operations for their multiple locations at LAX.
